How to Apply

We are now accepting applications for the fall 2015 semester! If you have missed the fall 2014 deadline but would like to start taking courses before fall 2015, consider applying to the Penn State Graduate Certificate in Public Health. Click here to learn more.



Admission to the Penn State MPH Program is granted jointly by the MPH Program and the Graduate School at Penn State. To review the Graduate School’s admissions requirements, please see the Requirements for Graduate Admission. The MPH Program’s requirements outlined below are in addition to the Graduate School’s requirements.

Admissions Requirements

Applications for admission to the MPH Program must include:

  • Completed online application
  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Statement of purpose
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Two official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
    • The preferred minimum cumulative GPA is a 3.0.
    • Transcripts must demonstrate that the candidate has completed at least one college-level statistics or other math course.
  • Official scores from one of the following standardized tests taken within the past five years:
    • Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
    • Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
    • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)
    • Law School Admission Test (LSAT)

  • For international applicants whose first language is not English, results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Please see the Graduate School’s English language requirements to determine whether you are exempt from this requirements and to see minimum acceptable scores.

Admissions Process

To apply to the Penn State MPH Program, please follow these steps:


  1. Go to the Graduate School application (If you are ready to proceed to the application but have NOT read the Graduate School requirements, please see the Requirements for Graduate Admission).
  2. Select “Create a New Account” if you do not have a Penn State user ID, or “Login with an Existing Account” if you have  a Penn State user ID.
  3. Log into the application with your user ID.
  4. Complete the online application, and upload to the application the following items:
    1. Resume/CV
    2. Statement of purpose
    3. Two letters of recommendation
  5. Mail official transcripts to: Penn State MPH Program:
    1. For transcripts being sent via US Postal Service: Mail Code A210, PO Box 855, Hershey, PA 17033-0855
    2. For transcripts being sent via UPS, FedEx, and DHL: Mailcode A210, 90 Hope Drive, Hershey, PA, 17033 (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A NEW BUILDING ADDRESS)
  6. Have official test scores sent to the Graduate School:  Institution code 2660.
